Miss Kimberly Wylde
Miss Wylde has been with the DSBN for the past 19 years. She began her teaching career in the elementary panel teaching Gr. 1 & 2 students. While she enjoyed working with the primary classes, she was very excited to be offered a job teaching dance at the secondary level. Miss Wylde started her high school teaching career at Niagara District Secondary School in Niagara-on-the-Lake where she taught dance and drama as part of the District of Niagara Arts (DNA) program. Currently, she is teaching at Welland Centennial Secondary where she teaches dance and drama classes as part of the Specialist High Skills Major in Arts and Culture program (SHSM).
As well as her teaching certificate, Miss Wylde has her Specialist both in Dance education and Drama education from York University. She is also qualified in Social Sciences, English, and Special Education. She is the Assistant Artistic Director of a local dance studio where she has been teaching competitive & recreational dance for the past 34 years. She is a member of the Council of Ontario Drama and Dance Educators (CODE) as well as Dance Ontario. She was named Canadian Dance Educator of the Year (2018) by Canada's National Academy of Dance Education. She is proud to be the first recipient of the City of Welland Arts and Culture Award for Dance in 2010. She has been a choreographer for such events as the Welland Professional Firefighter’s calendar launch in 2008 and 2010, the Welland Rose Festival Coronation Ball, Marilee’s Bridal Fashion shows, and many school musicals. She also taught dance and performed on Regal Cruise Lines for 2 ½ years after finishing university.
Miss Wylde has had the opportunity to choreograph for many special events including choreographing the opening number for the Niagara College Seafood Gala Fundraiser, the final number of the Opening Ceremony for the ICF World Championships 2013, the welcoming ceremony for astronaut Chris Hadfield for the Canadian School Board Association Annual Congress 2014, and the Opening Ceremony of the IDBF World Dragon Boat Championships 2015.
Miss Wylde is thrilled to pass on her love of the Arts to her students and continues to take workshops and classes in order to provide current dance techniques and proper teaching practices for her students.
